Swimming pools
If you want to add a touch of sophistication and a
relaxing ambiance to your home, you might consider having a pool built.
Of course, nothing beats the convenience of a cool dip on a hot summer
day and all you’ll have to do is walk a few steps and take the plunge.
The need to build a swimming pool might be tedious
and so we’d help you with some things that you’d have to decide on.
Location of the swimming pool
Do you want an indoor or outdoor pool? Indoor could
give you an added benefit of having to stay away from the sun, cold wind
and rain. However, it will take up more space in your home.
Do you want an inground pool, above ground pool, or
semi-inground pool? The cheapest of the three is the above-ground pool
and some kinds of above ground pools can even be disassembled and
brought along during a house transfer. Inground pools are usually more
costly because of the need to excavate for it. The
semi-inground pools offer the advantage and a mid-cost of the other two.
Shape, depth and Size of the Swimming Pool
The shape and size of the pool will be affected by
the space availability and of course by how much strokes you’d want to
have when swimming. If you are a swimming enthusiast and you’d want to
get a good workout, you might want to have a longer yet less wider pool,
if space doesn’t permit you an Olympic size pool.
Shapes may vary from regular rectangular or oval to
even bizarre shapes. Your choice of shape can be reflective of your
personality and style and an outlet for your creativity. For
above-ground pools, there isn’t much to choose from really as they’d
often take on regular shapes of rectangular, oval or circular.
In determining depth, you’d have to consider safety
for the users. Will kids be using the pool? Will it be used for lapping
only? Will it be used for diving? To serve multi-purposes, a pool can
have varying depths, with a shallow side and a deep side. It would be
good to have markers to indicate a change in depth and provide kids and
novices from accidentally going to the deeper side.
Accessories to Add to the Swimming Pool
To
add aesthetics to the pool, you might consider adding fountains, slides,
statues, waterwalls or waterfalls. Playing up a bit with the lighting
can add a bit of romance or serene atmosphere to the pool and
surrounding. Heaters might come helpful if you’d like to use the pool
even during the cold season. There are some solar pool heaters and heat
pumps that are efficient in the task but are cost efficient at the same
time. Having solar covers also helps in reducing the water that
evaporates and helps at the same time to retain heat in the water.
Other Considerations
It would be good to discuss with a pool builder
other matters such as materials to use, the necessary equipments like
pumps and filters, cleaners and chemicals to use for cleaning. As there
will also be various choices for these, ask the contractor to present
them to you along with the costing, durability, and safety issues.
